Marble, to do or not to do, that is the question…..

Are you a fan of marble? I most certainly am. Particularly Calacutta Marble. There is just someting about the saturated white and natural movement in the stone that captures me. In my opinion there isn’t a more beautiful stone out there. Would I use it in my kitchen? Absolutely! Would I recommend that you use it in yours? Maybe. Maybe not. See, marble is not for everyone. If you like exquisite surfaces but prefer them to stay that way, then marble should perhaps not be your first choice. If, on the other hand, you are ready to embrace the natural patina that will occur over time, well, then go for it. I have heard that Europeans prefer old marble to new and will pay a premium for a slab with some obvious history to it. Not sure if this is true, but it makes sense to me. So, if you are a brave fan, might I suggest that you have your marble counter leathered to prevent etching and of course, seal it regularly with the best sealer you can get your hands on. Oh, and enjoy……..it will last forever you know. After all, the David marble statue was created by Michelangelo in 1504!
